What is a sweatshop? The department of labor sees sweatshops as a place were they use child labor work them overtime and don't even pay them minimum wage or even obey fire safety laws. The people that work in sweatshops report all kinds of horrible working conditions, Such as cramped working spaces, sexual harassment, verbal abuse, corporal punishment and illegal firing's.Over 50% percent of the U.S garment factories are sweatshops. There are probably sweatshops in every country in the world that there are desperate workers. The typical sweatshop worker is a women in most cases are not getting an education because she is working long hours to help support her family and hopefully she has a husband.IN AMERICA the sweatshop workers are 90% women and are recent or undocumented immigrants.Almost all the companies in the mall you shop at have connections to some sort of sweatshop. Our U.S government has laws against sweatshops but we can't do allot because the department of labor doesn't have enough people to inspect every workstation in the U.S. But if the government finds all the sweatshops and there are no more workers we'll have no more supplies to make all of our goods and then stuff will get very expensive. An alternative to sweatshops is for the company that they're working to donate at least 1-2% of they're funds. For example if Nike donated 1% of they're funds the workers could feed and clothe themselves and they're families.I GOT THIS INFO FROMfeminist.org
